This is a wool and silk dress in the late bustle-era style, with a large bustle and draping at the back. The underskirt is silk twill with a cotton knife-pleated ruffle at the bottom. The bodice and overskirt are wool, with the underskirt being lined in raw silk and trimmed with cotton lace. The hat is made of the same silk as the underskirt, and lined in the same silk as the overskirt lining. This dress is worn with the Cuirass corset, a large stuffed bustle and a ruffled bustle-era petticoat. It could also be worn with a wire bustle. A corset is necessary with this style of dress for the best effect, as the bodice is so tightly fitted, and to support the bustle and the large amounts of draped fabric of the skirts.
